St. Antony's has scored 3:1 against Young Kampans at the final of “Jaffna Challengers cup” at Valvettithurai on Saturday to claim to have a leading soccer team in Jaffna Peninsula.
The final event of the tournament and prize giving ceremony were held yesterday (28.03.15) at Nediyakadu Sport’s club ground, Valvettithurai, during dark hours with full of flood lights, lighting the play ground.
The event was headed by Mr.R.Shanmugathas (the President of Nediyakadu Sports club), where NPC Minister Mr.Kurugularajah and Mr.M.Navanithamani (The president of Point Pedro Foot ball league) were participated as Chief guest and special guest respectively. Mr.Kesavarajah (Director of Jaffna based Thinakural daily news paper) and Mr.V.Kaviselvan (Director of Hutch, Northern province) were participated as guests of Honour.
The first 3 wieners of this soccer tournament as follows,
1st place - St. Antony's Sports club, Pasaiyur, Jaffna
2nd place – Young Kampans Sports club, Kamparmalai, Valvettithurai
3rd place - St Mary’s Sports club, Navanthurai, Jaffna
The event was further attracted by fire works and flying of “smoke filled balloons” which are probably seen only in Valvettithurai.
