Tsunami disaster evacuation drill carried out at Valvettithurai

Tsunami disaster evacuation drill carried out at Valvettithurai yesterday, on 23rd october 2014, as part of 'National disaster evacuation drills', exercised by Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in all the 25 districts in the Island, commencing from 11 a.m. yesterday.
The drill had commenced by alerting the public by sounding thet siren from the Tsunami warning tower located near the Chithambara College play ground, Orikadu, Valvttithurai. Drill had continued for about 2 hours with the participation of the offcial of Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Point Pedro divisional secretariat and the Public, where residents were trained to react properly in the face of disaster of Tsunami during the drill.
It is learnt that Drills would b held Island wide on floods, landslide and Tsunami and Kodippili.
The land slide districts drills are held in seven Districts namely Rathnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Kegalle, Matale and Kandy.
Tsunami related drills are held in fourteen districts, including Colombo, Kalutara, Trincomalee, Ampara, Galle, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Puttlam, Hambantota, Matara, Gampaha, Mullaithivu and Batticoloa, and the drills on floods are in five districts prone to floods, namely Anuradhpura, Polonnaruwa Vavuniya, Moneragala and Kurunegala.
