"Thaipongal” Annual kite festival 2024, jointly organized by “Valvai Vikneswara community Centre’ and 'Valvai Uthayasooriyan sports club' held yesterday at Valvettithurai, Uthayasooriyan beach, Jaffna, witnessing participation of thousands of people from various parts of Jaffna Peninsula.
The event headed by Mr.P. Thuraiselvam (President of the Community Centre) commenced at about 1400 hours, where Mr. Ambalavanar Sivabalasuntharam (GA, Jaffna district) participates as Chief Guest and Mr. S. Sathyaselan (Divisional Secretariat, Vadamaradchi North) and Mrs Tharsini Nitharsan (Secratry, Valvettithurai Urban council) participates as special guest.
In addition to kite festival the event continued with a honoring ceremony, for those made achievement s in studies, followed by a musical show.
During day after yesterday Kite show, 70 kites of various designs in multiple colors beautified the sky.
Moderate wind resulting from prevailed northeast monsoon favored most of the kites to fly successfully.
The kite competition has grown over the past 13 years because of the support of participants and increasing number of spectators not only from local but also from all over the Peninsula.
